USA Wins!

Well, the American team soundly defeated the squad from El Salvador last night. The final score was 4-0. Unfortunately, due to the fact that I had to work late and rush hour traffic was a nightmare, we only got to catch the second half of the game. Overall, it looked like the US team was playing really good soccer, and it was really exciting for me to see their international stars. The second game (Guatemala vs. Trinidad and Tobago) also got off to a good start, but because it had been a long day, we left at halftime. It ended in a 1-1 tie.

After the games last night, the schedule for Saturday's games (which we also have tickets for) looks like this:
Game 1: Canada vs. Guatemala - 1pm
Game 2: US vs. TBD - 4pm
Game 3: New England Revolution vs. Columbus Crew (MLS) - 6:30pm

The soccer was great, but I think the most interesting thing about last night was the passion of the Guatemalan fans. More than any other country, it was obvious (flags, jerseys, face paint) that there were a large number of Guatemalans at the game. The US fans were somewhat vocal during their game, but the Guatemalans were cheering almost as loudly. When it was finally time for their team to play, there was no comparison. It was really interesting to see the international passion for the game. I personally would love it if soccer caught on in the US and we had the same sort of passion!

I can't wait for Saturday!
