Yesterday, I finished reading Hannibal Rising, the prequel to Thomas Harris' Red Dragon, The Silence Of The Lambs and Hannibal. The newest novel is an exploration into Hannibal Lecter's childhood and the events that caused him to become the murderous monster that he was in the other novels. I think I enjoyed reading Red Dragon and The Silence Of The Lambs slightly more, but this novel was better than the tough to read Hannibal. The stories of Lecter's youth were well told, and the book had the same dark feel as the others. Some of the scenes were suspenseful, graphic and shocking, but in my opinion, the plot lacked a little in the area of true surprise or revelation. Without giving anything more away, I would say the book is worth reading if you enjoyed Harris' other work. I enjoyed it!
